When and why is the Miner's Day celebrated

The Miner's Day is a special celebration of the Chilean calendar that is commemorated every August 10 . This day aims to highlight the work of all those who work or worked in the mining industry in our country. Then find out what the origin of this Chilean anniversary is.

How was the Miner's Day born?

Miner's Day was born in 2009 with the publication of Law 20,363, which establishes that every August 10 , the National Miner's Day is commemorated throughout the country. This date is chosen because the celebration of San Lorenzo takes place on this day; Spanish priest who lived in Rome during the 3rd century AD and dedicated his life to the administration of the church's assets. He is considered the patron of mining.

The story goes that San Lorenzo was sent to be arrested by the Emperor Valeriano, who demanded that he hand over all the treasures of the church. In response, he asked three days to meet them.

So Lorenzo, buried all the precious metals and other valuables of the church. Then he gathered the poor, old and sick and presented them to the emperor as the true treasure of the church. Faced with mockery, he punished him by ordering him to die in a burning grill on August 10. It is said that despite the sentence, San Lorenzo never revealed the place where he had hidden the treasure.
