Every April 27, Chile is celebrated on Carabinero's Day ; a special date on the national calendar that seeks to pay tribute to the different police forces that emerged in Chile during the Hispanic, colonial and republican periods. It also seeks to commemorate all the men and women who dedicate themselves to this laudable profession. Below we will tell you how Carabinero Day was born and why it is celebrated on April 27 in Chile.
How was Carabinero Day born in Chile?
The Day of the Carabinero was born on April 27, 1927 when Carlos Ibánez del Campo , who served as vice president of the Republic and at the same time, general of the Carabineros Corps, decided to merge all the police and order forces that existed in those times throughout the country in a single institution that he called the Carabineros de Chile.
This institution has evolved over time internally. For example, on July 16, 1962, the first female group was presented, consisting of 104 women. In October 1974, the Female Rank was created for Contract Order and Security personnel, which will later be known as Institutional Appointment Personnel.
Likewise, through a gradual process, gender equality has been developed and implemented within the Carabineros de Chile , which allows women to be seen today patrolling and carrying out surveillance tasks in radio patrols, horses, bicycles or motorcycles, among others. Changes and achievements that today allow us to celebrate Carabinero Day with rejoicing throughout our country.
