How was the Día del Barros Luco born in Chile?

As already mentioned, the Day of the Barros Luco is linked to a former Chilean president; this is Ramón Barros Luco, who ruled between 1910 and 1915; a time when Chile was experiencing a great time thanks to the nitrate industry and enormous advances in technology.

Well, during that time, the president had the habit of having lunch at the Torres de Santiago cafeteria. There he always ordered a toasted marraqueta sandwich, with hot meat and cheese.

With the passage of time, the preparation was gaining strength and the customers of the cafeteria also began to ask for it. The popularity of the sandwich was such that the owner of the place decided to name it after President Barros Luco.
